Brea police Friday announced the arrest of a 37-year-old suspected child predator following a community-led sting operation.
The Brea Police Department received a call at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday from a person who claimed to be a part of a citizen group that monitors the internet for child predators, Lt. Chris Harvey said.
“The citizen reported their citizen group had conducted a sting operation where they had posed as an underaged teen boy,” he said. “They reported that an adult male had traveled to Brea with the intention of meeting with the underage boy.”
Officers responded to the scene and arrested Benito Ramirez Vasquez of Anaheim following an investigation. He was booked into jail on charges including arranging a meeting with a minor for lewd purposes and contacting a minor to commit a felony, Harvey said.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing and anyone with information was asked to contact BPD Detective Shannon Buckels at 714-990-7637.
