A 42-year-old woman allegedly driving under the influence plowed into an SUV in Moreno Valley, killing a husband and wife, both 80, who were in the vehicle, authorities said Friday.

Wendy Aguilar of Los Angeles was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside Thursday on suspicion of DUI murder, felony DUI and causing great bodily injury. Bail information was not immediately available.

According to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Robert Grmusha, about 4 p.m. Thursday, Aguilar was at the wheel of a 2002 Acura MDX going west on Alessandro Boulevard “at a high rate of speed” and encountered an eastbound 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander, which initiated a turn across westbound lanes into a business complex.

The Acura impacted the passenger side of the SUV.

Grmusha alleged that Aguilar got out of the smashed Acura and walked to a spot nearby as fire crews and deputies converged on the location.

The occupants of the Mitsubishi, identified as Alberto R. Agoncillo and his wife, Lydia M. Agoncillo, of Moreno Valley, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Grmusha said Aguilar suffered minor injuries, and her front-seat passenger, whose identity was not released, suffered moderate injuries. The victim was taken to nearby Riverside University Medical Center for treatment and is expected to fully recover.

Alessandro was shut down at Heacock Street because of the crash and ensuing investigation, according to the sergeant.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s Moreno Valley station at 951-486-6968.
