Corona police cold case detectives are trying to generate new leads in a nearly 14-year-old murder involving a 20-year-old man, and are asking anyone who might know something to come forward.
Corona Police Department Det. Jesse Marquez posted a video on the agency’s social media pages Tuesday appealing for help in solving the murder of Christian Gutierrez of Corona.
Marquez said that on the night of March 29, 2008, Gutierrez accompanied friends to a house party in the 700 block of Laguna Circle, and about 3 a.m., they left the residence, walking west on Parkridge Avenue.
As they continued westbound in the 600 block of Parkridge, a light-colored four-door sedan pulled alongside, and a “series of shots” were fired from the vehicle, striking Gutierrez but not the others, according to the detective.
The vehicle then sped away, heading west on Parkridge.
“Christian was transported to an area hospital, where he unfortunately later succumbed to his injuries,” Marquez said.
He said investigators collected security surveillance video from homes and spoke to witnesses, but the efforts yielded no solid evidence, and the case went cold.
Detectives are seeking any fresh details that might point to potential suspects. Anyone with information was urged to contact Marquez at 951-817-5837.
