A tanker truck burst into flames and spilled an estimated 1,000 gallons of fuel after colliding with a vehicle, leaving one person dead, and careening into a fountain in Canoga Park.

Firefighters were called at approximately 1 a.m. to 6500 N. Canoga Ave., near Victory Boulevard, to secure the area and contain any run off.

Private contractors were called in to remove the tanker truck, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

The occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Stewart said Victory Boulevard and Canoga Avenue are closed for an unknown duration because of the spill.

No other injuries were reported.
