A 65-year-old woman was fatally injured Friday in a multi-vehicle wreck in the middle of Mead Valley.
Demiris Reid of Nuevo was killed about 5:50 a.m. on Cajalco Road, just west of Barton Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency said that the victim was in one of three vehicles that impacted on the two-lane corridor, though the circumstances were not immediately clear.
Riverside County Fire Department crews reached the location, which is roughly two miles northwest of Perris, within a few minutes and extricated the unconscious victim from her car, attempting lifesaving measures.
Reid was pronounced dead at the scene.
At least one other person was injured. The party, whose identity was not disclosed, was taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley for treatment, according to the fire department. The victim’s condition was not specified.
Both sides of Cajalco were closed for more than four hours after the crash while the wreckage was cleared and a preliminary investigation was conducted.
