A 37-year-old man was the person who died in a shooting near some railroad tracks in Torrance, the coroner’s office said Tuesday, adding that a woman the agency previously identified as the victim was actually killed in a separate shooting in the vicinity.

Juan Gonzalez, whose city of residence was unknown, was found about 2 a.m. Jan. 24 with a gunshot wound to the head near some railroad tracks in the 1800 block of Del Amo Boulevard, near Western Avenue, according to the coroner’s office and Sgt. Mark Ponegalek of the Torrance Police Department.

Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Monday, the coroner’s office had identified the shooting victim as 22-year-old Ezmeralda McGee of Lennox. On Tuesday, however, coroner’s officials said McGee was struck in a leg during a separate shooting in the same vicinity, and died at a hospital the same day.

Details of that shooting were not immediately available. Torrance police said they had no information regarding a shooting involving McGee.

Anyone with information on the shootings was urged to call Torrance police at 310-328-3456.
