Police in Costa Mesa arrested a man who may have attempted to rob two banks in the same shopping center Friday.
Officers responded to a bank robbery in progress at 2300 Harbor Blvd. at 1:49 p.m. Friday. As they arrived, witnesses said they saw the suspect exit the bank and walk out onto Harbor Boulevard.
Based on witness descriptions, police tracked him to a nearby construction site and detained him until the witnesses identified him, according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.
The man was arrested on suspicion of robbery.
A second bank at 2300 Harbor Blvd. called police to report an attempted bank robbery at approximately 1:40 p.m. Officers and detectives were working to determine if the same suspect was responsible for that crime as well.
Police said the suspect’s name was being withheld pending the ongoing investigation.
