Riverside County sheriff’s investigators Monday requested the public’s help identifying the motorist who killed a 59-year-old man crossing a street in Moreno Valley.

Thomas Reese of Moreno Valley was fatally struck shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday on Sunnymead Boulevard, just east of Heacock Street, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Chad Craig.

He said that deputies were patrolling the area when they spotted Reese lying unconscious in the roadway.

“The subject had injuries that indicated he had been struck by a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene,” the sergeant said.

Craig said it appeared that Reese was crossing Sunnymead when “an unknown vehicle traveling westbound” slammed into him and didn’t stop.

Investigators are examining Moreno Valley’s Citywide Camera System for clues but also seeking any available assistance from the public to identify the perpetrator.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Moreno Valley sheriff’s station at 951-486-6700.
