A 30-year-old woman was killed when her car slammed into a wall underneath Interstate 215 in Riverside, authorities said Tuesday.

Susan Edge of Riverside was fatally injured at about 11 p.m. Monday at the northbound entrance to the freeway from MLK Boulevard, according to the Riverside Police Department.

“We’re investigating it, but that’s all we can say at this time,” agency spokesman Officer Ryan Railsback told City News Service.

He said Edge was in one of the two left-turn lanes to join the northbound MLK ramp to I-215. The sedan did not turn, but instead appeared to have been steered directly into the concrete wall that drivers encounter at the location, forcing them to turn left.

Railsback said the car was almost unrecognizable due to the impact, which likely occurred at high speed.

No other vehicles were involved.

Police and California Highway Patrol officers shut down the on-ramp for almost three hours to conduct a preliminary investigation and remove the wreckage.
