Preliminary information indicated multiple vehicles were involved in the crash, Kravig told City News Service.
Witnesses told the CHP it was a head-on collision and a news videographer at the scene said one of the motorists was driving the wrong way on the freeway.
Mitchell-King’s city of residency was not immediately known.
The CHP issued a SigAlert shutting down all northbound lanes at Avenue H, with traffic allowed to re-enter the freeway at Avenue G.
