A man who allegedly shot fireworks out of his car was taken into custody in Downey after leading police on a pursuit Thursday evening.
California Highway Patrol units began pursuing the man driving a white sedan in the Irvine area about 8:05 p.m., according to the CHP.
The man led police on the southbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway to the Norwalk area and onto the westbound Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway, until he exited onto Lakewood Boulevard in Downey.
A CHP vehicle sheared the car’s rear bumper off in an attempted PIT maneuver, but the man continued to flee at high speeds on surface streets.
The man led authorities to the area of Naranja Avenue and Jefferson Street, where CHP units disabled the suspect’s car with another PIT maneuver just before 8:20 p.m. The man got out of the sedan and attempted to enter a nearby residence, but was subdued by officers in the driveway.
The man was taken into custody without further incident.
