An 18-year-old man was fatally injured when he lost control of his car and slammed into a fire hydrant in Corona, authorities said Wednesday.
Gerardo Pena was killed about 8 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of East Sixth Street and Grand Avenue, according to the Corona Police Department.
Police said Pena was driving his BMW sedan in the 800 block of East Sixth when he suddenly skidded toward the shoulder of the roadway, struck the curb and then plowed into the hydrant.
No other vehicles were involved.
Corona Fire Department paramedics reached the location within five minutes and pronounced Pena dead at the scene.
