Fire crews fought to control a blaze at a two-story apartment building Friday in the Hyde Park area of South Los Angeles that left at least five people temporarily without homes.

Firefighters were called at 3:38 a.m. to 2319 W. 54th St. where they found flames coming from a second floor unit that had spread into the floor, wall, and attic spaces of the building as well as to an adjacent duplex, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange.

Prange said it took 40 firefighters 63 minutes to extinguish the flames.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
