Fullerton police Friday asked for the public’s help to determine the cause of a crash that killed a man on a motorized bicycle that investigators suspect could be a hit-and-run.
Ivars Borsteins, 58, of Fullerton, was found suffering from serious injuries about 9:30 p.m. Thursday at Malvern and Basque avenues, Fullerton Police Department Sgt. Brandon Clyde said. He had modified a mountain bike with an electric motor, which was found near him, Clyde said.
Borsteins was rushed to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Clyde said.
“It is possible he may have just fallen” off the bike and had an accident, Clyde said.
“That’s why we’re looking to find any witnesses we can get,” Clyde said.
The vehicle was not an e-bike that is bought at a store, Clyde said.
“He modified it himself and put a motor on it,” Clyde said.
Police have not had much luck digging up surveillance video, Clyde said.
Anyone with information helpful to investigators was asked to call 714-738-6812. Orange County Crime Stoppers will accept anonymous tips at 855-TIP-OCCS.
