A dog was killed in a fire that damaged two homes in Canoga Park Wednesday.

Los Angeles Fire Department units were called just before 2:50 p.m. to a fire at a one-story home in the 7300 block of North Loma Verde Avenue, according to the department’s Nicholas Prange.

The fire spread to an adjacent home and caused minor damage to a detached garage, but LAFD crews were able to extinguish the flames by about 3:20 p.m.

“Although there were no injuries, sadly, one family canine perished in the blaze,” Prange said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, and the extent of the damage was not immediately known.
