A 48-year-old man was shot and killed in Cathedral City Thursday and police detained a person of interest and found a suspect vehicle.
The shooting was reported just before 3:30 p.m. in the area of Shifting Sands Trail and Mission Indian Trail, near the Cimarron Golf Resort, according to the Cathedral City Police Department.
Arriving officers found the victim lying in the front yard of a residence with at least one gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. His name was not released pending notification of his next of kin.
CCPD officers located a suspect vehicle in the 35700 block of Date Palm Drive, less than two miles from the scene of the shooting, according to the department.
A person of interest was also detained, though it was not immediately known the person was involved in the shooting.
