A man attempting to cross Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach outside of a crosswalk was struck and killed by a Jeep Tuesday, police said.
Long Beach Police Department officers were called just after 8:05 a.m. to the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Rose Avenue, near Chittick Field, on reports of a 2019 Jeep striking a pedestrian and learned the man was taken to a hospital by Long Beach Fire Department paramedics prior to their arrival, according to a police statement.
The man died of his injuries at the hospital. His name was withheld pending notification of his next of kin.
The driver of the Jeep remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. Distracted driving, impaired driving and speed were not believed to be a factor in the collision.
