A woman was killed Monday in a multi-vehicle crash on the northbound Long Beach (710) Freeway in Long Beach involving a motorist who was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 1 a.m. at the transition to the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Tiffany Haynes, 32, of Los Angeles, died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office and the CHP.

Alfonzo Star, 60, of Lakeview Terrace was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, the CHP reported.

Haynes was driving a 2013 Toyota sedan that “for unknown reasons was stopped in the #2 lane of (the) northbound 710,” the CHP said in a statement.

Star was northbound in a 2002 Chevrolet, and his vehicle crashed into the rear of the Toyota, the CHP reported.

The driver of a big rig then stopped — partially on the right freeway shoulder and partially in the No. 3 lane — next to where the Toyota came to rest, the CHP reported.

The driver of a 2018 Ford then swerved to the right, but the Ford hit the Toyota and the big rig, the CHP reported.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the CHP at 424-551-4000.
