A fire that broke out Wednesday in a bamboo stand along the Santa Ana River bottom in Jurupa Valley was stopped at just under a half-acre.
The non-injury blaze was reported at about 11:20 a.m. in the area of Etiwanda Avenue and 66th Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames in bamboo and grass, burning at a slow rate to the east. Firefighters quickly encircled the blaze, stopping its forward rate of spread within 15 minutes, according to officials at the scene.
The only damage was to a water main, which was ruptured where crews were hooking up their lines, officials said.
Personnel from the Jurupa Valley Community Service District were summoned to make repairs.
The cause of the fire was under investigation. In the last month, several fires have erupted around the river bottom, where dozens of homeless encampments are spread between Jurupa Valley and Norco.
