Firefighters fully contained a 15-acre brush fire in North Shore near the Salton Sea with a ring of cleared vegetation Sunday.
The blaze was initially reported about 8:30 p.m. Saturday as two acres of palm trees and heavy vegetation burning near the railroad tracks at Highway 111 and Parkside Drive, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Firefighters worked overnight “making good progress on getting fire hose around the perimeter of the fire,” the department said.
Fire crews reported Sunday morning that the forward progress of the fire had been stopped as they continued to mop up hot spots and build a containment line.
No evacuations were ordered and no injuries were reported, though the blaze destroyed a small railroad bridge, fire officials said.
