A 24-year-motorist was killed when his car made an unsafe lane change and struck the back of a parked, unoccupied big rig in Long Beach, authorities said Saturday.

The victim was identified as Martin Ojeda of Long Beach, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

Ojeda was driving a 2017 Honda Civic southbound on Atlantic Avenue, south of Vernon Street, at about 10:10 p.m. Friday when he made the unsafe lane change and struck the big rig, police said.

Officers responded to the location at about 10:12 p.m. and arriving paramedics pronounced Ojeda, the lone occupant in the Honda, dead at the scene.

“At this time, it is believed speed and impaired driving were factors in this collision. However, the investigation remains ongoing,” the LBPD said.

The department’s Collision Investigation Detail urged anyone with information regarding the crash to call them at 562-570-7355 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
