A woman suspected of a stealing a car was arrested Monday evening in Hollywood when she slammed into a police patrol car in reverse after leading police on a chase that began in Monterey Park.
The pursuit began at 10:07 p.m., said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Norma Eiseman. The suspect drove a gray older model Toyota on the San Bernardino (10), Long Beach (710) and Hollywood freeways.
A standoff between police and the suspect occurred after she put the Toyota in reverse and rammed into a LAPD vehicle on the Western Avenue off-ramp of the northbound Hollywood Freeway, causing smoke and water to leak out of the police vehicle.
Close to a dozen LAPD officers with guns drawn surrounded the suspect’s vehicle during the standoff. The LAPD’s Central Area sent a tweet at 10:29 p.m., reporting that “Officers are currently negotiating with the suspect for a peaceful surrender.”
A team of officers used a shield to smash the car’s driver’s side window and removed the woman at approximately 10:35 p.m.
