Firefighters kept a quarter-acre brush fire on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu from spreading Saturday by quickly carving a line of cleared vegetation around it.
The fire was first reported about 6:25 p.m. at Serra Road and PCH, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The vegetation was described as heavy and the fire was creeping, fire officials said.
The National Weather Service reported relative humidity was 80% in the area and winds were 2-5 mph with gusts to 10 mph.
At 6:30 p.m., firefighters reported the fire’s forward progress was stopped and that several engines would stay to put out hot spots.
No injuries were reported.
