Firefighters Monday extinguished a quarter-acre brush fire on a hillside north of the westbound Pomona (60) Freeway in the Diamond Bar area, and no homes were damaged.

The blaze, apparently sparked by a big rig fire, was reported near Phillips Ranch Road about 11:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Ground crews and water-dropping helicopters were sent to the scene, and the flames were extinguished in about an hour, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Some firefighting crews remained on scene Monday afternoon, dousing hot spots and watching for embers that could reignite the flames, the fire department reported. No injuries were reported.

The Nos. 3 and 4 lanes of the westbound 60 Freeway were closed as a precaution.
