A fire that erupted Wednesday in the attic of a Norco home caused major damage, displacing the six occupants, two of whom were children.

The blaze was reported about 5 p.m. in the 1300 block of Detroit Street, near Valley View Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames along the attic and roof of the 1,500-square-foot single-story house.

All of the occupants evacuated the residence prior to firefighters’ arrival.

The fire spread to other parts of the house before crews contained it shortly before 6 p.m.

Four adults and two children were displaced by the fire, according to officials at the scene.

Red Cross personnel were requested to assist with finding them temporary alternate lodgings.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
