The Riverside County coroner’s office Monday identified the 8-year-old boy who was riding a scooter in a residential area in Menifee when he was fatally hit by a vehicle.

The collision was reported about 7 p.m. Sunday in the 29000 block of Shadow Hills Street, a residential cul-de-sac east of Menifee Road, according to the Menifee Police Department.

Investigators believe the boy was riding a scooter near the front yard of a home when he entered the roadway and was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Shadow Hills.

Despite lifesaving efforts by a witness, responding officers and paramedics, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was identified as Evans Phillips of Menifee, the coroner’s office reported.

Police said the driver of the vehicle, who was not identified, remained at the scene and fully cooperated with the investigation.

Neither alcohol nor drugs were believed to be factors in the crash.
