Sheriff’s deputies came under fire Thursday in a Compton neighborhood, and authorities were working to arrest a suspect who was barricaded in a burning apartment.

The law enforcement personnel were sent to the 100 block of Acacia Avenue about 7:30 a.m. on an assault with a deadly weapon call, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.

No deputies were injured, the sheriff’s department reported, however a person with a gunshot wound was taken to a hospital.

A containment of the area was established, and a SWAT team was sent to the scene.

About 8:15 a.m., a fire was reported in the apartment building where the suspect apparently was barricaded.

Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau personnel assumed tactical command and Crisis Negotiation Team attempted to contact the suspect to bring this to a peaceful resolution.

Fox 11 is reporting the suspect surrendered to police at around 8:45 a.m.
