A man was killed when a suspected drunken driver chased by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies crashed into another car in South Los Angeles Thursday.
Deputies began pursuing a copper Kia sedan after units reported the vehicle driving recklessly, according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The Kia crashed into a red vehicle just before 3:15 p.m. at the westbound Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway exit at Central Avenue.
CBS2 and ABC7 reported between four and seven vehicles were involved in the collision, but authorities could not confirm the number.
The man driving the red vehicle was killed in the collision. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The driver and a passenger in the Kia were also injured in the collision and handcuffed to gurneys before they were taken from the scene, ABC7 reported. It was not immediately known if there were additional injuries due to the collision.
The westbound Glenn Anderson Freeway off-ramp at Central Avenue was closed for an unknown duration as the California Highway Patrol and sheriff’s department investigated the crash.
