A brush fire erupted Monday along the Santa Ana River bottom in Jurupa Valley, damaging two mobile homes and threatening to spread deep into the channel.
The blaze was first reported at 1:20 p.m. in the area of Crestmore Road and 34th Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple crews from the county and city of Riverside were sent to the location and encountered a half-acre of heavy vegetation burning.
Two apparently empty single-wide mobile homes were in the path of the brusher, which damaged both, according to officials at the scene.
No evacuation orders were imminent.
A battalion chief said the fire had the potential to expand to the opposite side of the river bottom, into Riverside. However, winds were light.
There was no word regarding how the blaze might have started.
