A brush fire that erupted Monday on the edge of the Santa Ana River bottom in Jurupa Valley damaged two mobile homes before it was stopped.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 1:20 p.m. in a debris pile near Crestmore Road and 34th Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said that multiple engine crews from the county and city of Riverside were sent to the location and encountered flames behind two vacant mobile homes, moving into heavy vegetation within the dry riverbed.

The single-wide trailers sustained some damage but were not destroyed, according to reports from the scene.

As afternoon winds picked up, officials feared the blaze might jump the river bottom toward Carlson Dog Park in Riverside, but crews completely contained the brusher at 2:20 p.m.

Roughly a half-acre was burned.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
