A fire that erupted Monday in an Anza home on federal land caused major damage and briefly threatened to jump into surrounding vegetation before crews stopped it.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 2:30 p.m. on Mitchell Road, near Bahrman Road, within the Cahuilla Indian Reservation, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine crews from the county and U.S. Forest Service were sent to the location and encountered flames spread throughout the single-story residence, causing spot fires outdoors.
Firefighters deployed around the property and prevented the flames from extending into brush, according to reports from the scene.
The blaze was contained by 3:15 p.m.
It was not immediately known whether anyone was displaced by the fire, the cause of which was under investigation.
