On the heels of two fatalities this month, Corona police Thursday circulated a message Thursday of pedestrian safety.

On July 13, officers responded to the intersection of Via Santiago and Avenida Del Vista at around 9:40 p.m. to a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle, according to the Corona Police Department.

Police said the man was struck as he was crossing the intersection, and he later died at a hospital. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular homicide.

At about 12:30 a.m. July 20, a man stepped in front of a moving vehicle in the 1300 block of West Sixth Street, police said. The man was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The police department urged the public to keep pedestrian safety in mind, reminding pedestrians to cross streets in designated crosswalks, stay aware of their surroundings and use caution when crossing the street.
