A 67-year-old woman suspected of shooting two relatives, killing one, during a confrontation at a San Jacinto home was being held without bail Wednesday.

Nancy Susan Wischmeyer of San Jacinto was arrested and booked into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning Tuesday on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, about 9:30 p.m. Monday, Wischmeyer was involved in an undisclosed dispute with the two female victims, identified only as “estranged family members,” in the 1900 block of Meridian Street, near Beringer Drive.

Sgt. Richard Carroll said the suspect pulled a handgun and fired several rounds at the women, wounding both.

Witnesses called 911, and patrol deputies and paramedics reached the residence minutes later. Carroll said one victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other was taken to a trauma center for treatment.

She was in stable condition Wednesday.

Wischmeyer was detained at the location without incident. Homicide detectives questioned her, after which she was booked into jail in the predawn hours Tuesday.

A possible motive for the alleged attack was not provided.

Background information on the suspect was unavailable.
