A brush fire that erupted Thursday on a Jurupa Valley hillside blackened roughly a half-acre before it was stopped.

The non-injury blaze was reported about 4:55 p.m. in the area of Rubidoux Boulevard and Tarragona Drive, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said that four engine crews were sent to the location and encountered residents using their own hoses to battle the flames, concentrated in a field at the bottom of a hill behind homes.

Firefighters quickly encircled the brusher, fully containing it about 5:10 p.m., according to reports from the scene.

Sheriff’s deputies partially closed Rubidoux to provide space for fire crews to operate.

Crews were expected to finish mopping up by nightfall.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
