Firefighters Saturday put out a 15,000-square-foot brush fire at the west end of the Sepulveda Basin Recreation area, near Lake Balboa.

It took 50 firefighters 52 minutes to put out the blaze that was first reported shortly after 7 p.m. in the 6400 block of North Balboa Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles fire Department’s Brian Humphrey.

Light wind pushed the flames from grass into heavy brush but firefighters were able to contain it within a 200-feet-by 75-feett area, Humphrey said.

No structures were threatened and no evacuations were ordered, he said.

Firefighters remained on scene to put out hot spots, Humphrey said.
