A man allegedly armed with a gun was shot by a sheriff’s deputy Tuesday in the Gardena area, authorities said.
The shooting was reported around 12:30 a.m. at a residence in the 300 block of West Redondo Beach Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The wounded man was treated at a hospital, and he was expected to survive, the sheriff’s department reported. His name was not immediately released.
Compton Station deputies were sent to the residence on a call of a family disturbance, the department reported.
“Upon the deputies’ arrival, they observed a male … adult armed with a handgun and a deputy-involved shooting occurred,” a sheriff’s department statement said. “The suspect was struck by gunfire in the lower torso and transported to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.”
No deputies were injured. The shooting remains under investigation.
Anyone with information on the incident was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
