Armed robbers exchanged gunfire Saturday with the owner of a Huntington Harbour Mall jewelry store before fleeing in two vehicles and crashing one, leading to the arrest of a juvenile.
The drama unfolded about 4 p.m. at the jewelry store at Algonquin Street and Davenport Drive, the Huntington Beach Department reported on Twitter.
“Susps forcibly entered a business with weapons & an exchange of gunfire occurred as the store owner defended himself. The susps fled in 2 vehicles n/b onto the 405,” police tweeted. It was unclear if the suspects stole any merchandise.
One of the vehicles was located by police in nearby Los Alamitos, where it crashed, prompting several suspects to flee, according to Huntington Beach police.
“After a search of the area, a male juvenile was located and detained,” the police department said in a tweet.
A directory of shops at Huntington Harbour Mall indicates the store is named Isabella’s Jewelry.
