A convicted felon suspected of shooting a man during a confrontation in Moreno Valley was being held without bail Friday.
Luis Duran Villalobos of Moreno Valley was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside Thursday on suspicion of attempted murder, child endangerment and being a felon in possession of a loaded firearm.
According to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Christopher Varela, on the afternoon of Sept. 22, Villalobos was involved in an unspecified confrontation with another man on Frederick Street, near Sunnymead Boulevard.
During the encounter, the suspect allegedly pulled a gun and shot the victim, whose identity was not disclosed, Varela said.
He alleged that Villalobos fled the location before deputies arrived.
The victim was taken to nearby Riverside University Medical Center for treatment. He is recovering.
A possible motive for the attack was not provided.
In the ensuing investigation, detectives identified Villalobos as the alleged assailant, culminating in a search warrant being obtained and served at his apartment in the 12700 block of Frederick Thursday, Varela said.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Jail records indicated Villalobos has felony convictions, but they weren’t specified.
