A fire on the top floor of a two-story duplex in Silver Lake Wednesday evening was extinguished by 36 firefighters in 17 minutes.

Firefighters responded at 8:54 p.m. to 956 N. Hoover St., about two blocks south of Santa Monica Boulevard, where they located the fire in a small laundry room, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

One man was evacuated from the first floor.

No injuries were reported and no other structures were damaged, Stewart said.

After searching the building firefighters did not locate any other occupants in the unit.
