A 44-year-old transient with two prior strikes was charged Tuesday with stabbing a homeless woman in Anaheim.
Adrian Vargas is accused of stabbing a 53-year-old woman about 2:30 a.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of South State College Boulevard, near Ball Road, according to Anaheim Police Department Sgt. Shane Carringer.
The victim was rushed to a hospital in critical condition but was expected to survive, Carringer said.
Vargas is charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, both felonies, and a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest. He also faces sentencing enhancement for great bodily injury.
Vargas did not enter a plea at his arraignment Tuesday in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana. He is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 7 in the North Justice Center in Fullerton.
Vargas was convicted of burglary in November 2010 in San Bernardino County, and assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer in Los Angeles County in February 2014, according to the criminal complaint.
