A man on parole was arrested after a foot pursuit for alleged possession of controlled substances in Moreno Valley, authorities announced Saturday.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s Moreno Valley station were conducting proactive patrol in the area of Red Hill Road and Sultan Street at about 4:50 p.m. Thursday when they recognized Dennis Carbajal, an alleged member of a criminal street gang, who is currently on parole, standing near a vehicle.

Carbajal allegedly fled on foot after deputies attempted to contact him. During the pursuit, Carbajal allegedly discarded 40 grams of methamphetamine, nine M30 fentanyl pills and 8 grams of cocaine. Deputies reported that the substances were packaged in a manner to suggest possession for sales.

According to authorities, deputies also recovered a live round of .22 caliber ammunition, $1,100 in counterfeit U.S. currency and items associated with identity theft.

Anyone with information about the suspect was asked to contact Deputy Mahoney of the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s station at 951-486-6700.
