A fire that erupted Wednesday in a Home Gardens residence caused major damage, displacing the occupant, who was not injured.
The blaze was reported shortly after 6 a.m. in the 3700 block of Windsong Street, near Harlow Avenue, just south of the Riverside (91) Freeway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine crews from the county and Corona Fire Department were sent to the location and encountered smoke and flames within the attic of the single-story house.
Firefighters contained the blaze a half-hour later, preventing the flames from spreading beyond the roof area, officials said.
The damage made the property uninhabitable pending repairs, and county fire personnel requested Red Cross staff to assist the resident with finding temporary alternate lodgings.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
