The coroner’s office Friday released the name of a man who was fatally shot in a Compton parking structure.

Danthony Malone was a 28-year-old resident of Compton, according to the coroner’s office.

Deputies from the Compton Sheriff’s Station were called at 9:53 p.m. Thursday to the 1700 block of North Long Beach Boulevard on a shots fired call when they found the victim, according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

The victim now identified as Malone was pronounced dead at the scene after Compton Fire Department paramedics worked to save him.

A witness gave Compton Station deputies a description of the suspect and the vehicle he was seen driving. Deputies stopped a vehicle matching the description, and said the driver lived at the location where the crime occurred and was in possession of a weapon similar to the one used to kill the victim. The driver was taken into custody, but no other details were immediately released.

Anyone with information about this shooting was asked to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can be called into Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or to lacrimestoppers.org.
