Officers were sent to the 1000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. Friday regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

The alleged suspect fled on foot through a nearby alleyway when officers tried to contact him.
“Officers established a perimeter and began a search for the suspect. Officers made contact with the suspect, however the suspect refused to comply with officer commands to surrender,” police said, adding that a K9 unit was employed, “a use of force occurred and the suspect was taken into custody.”
The suspect — a Long Beach resident who was not identified — was booked at the Long Beach Jail on one count of attempted murder and one count of resisting arrest. His bail was set at $1 million.
