Fire crews have contained and extinguished a major emergency blaze Wednesday at a six-story office building that houses administrative offices for several county agencies south of downtown Los Angeles.
Firefighters were called at 3:58 a.m. to 2615 S. Grand Ave. near West Adams Boulevard where they found flames coming from the sixth floor of the high-rise as well as from the building’s roof, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.
“The fire has been contained to the one building,” LAFD Capt. Jacob Raabe told reporters at the scene.
More than 160 firefighters battled the fire and extinguished the flames in less than an hour, Humphrey said. Raabe said two firefighters were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
The area near Grand and West Adams will be closed indefinitely due to the fire investigation.
Offices for the Los Angeles County Departments of Social Services and Public Health are in the building, which is a pre-1960 concrete structure.
Arson investigators are at the scene and fire crews will remain to monitor and salvage the building for contents, assist county officials and support the investigation.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No civilian injuries have been reported.
