A 31-year-old man was behind bars Tuesday for allegedly beating a man unconscious and robbing him in San Fernando.
Edgar Flores was arrested around 4:10 p.m. Monday near a liquor store in the 900 block of Truman Street, according to the San Fernando Police Department.
The robbery occurred around 10:20 a.m. Friday in the 900 block of North Maclay Avenue, where Flores was caught on video surveillance attempting to snatch a bag from the victim’s hand, police said. The victim, a 69-year-old man, resisted, prompting the assailant to “violently attack the victim and render him unconscious.”
Flores was booked at the San Fernando Police Department on suspicion of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, resisting arrest, and an outstanding parole warrant, police said. The investigation remains ongoing.
He was being held without bail, according to county jail records.
“I am proud of the men and women of the San Fernando Police Department and their efforts to solve this case as quickly as possible,” San Fernando Police Chief Fabian Valdez said in a statement.
