A suspect in a recent armed carjacking in Culver City has been arrested and an accomplice was being sought Wednesday, police said.
The crime occurred on Saturday at about 7:25 p.m. near Blanco Park, in the 5800 block of Sawtelle Boulevard, according to the Culver City Police Department.
“The victim had been dragged alongside the vehicle as the suspects drove away,” police said in a statement.
The 65-year-old Culver City resident was treated at a hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. The suspects were described as males about 20 years old, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
“CCPD detectives tirelessly conducted their follow-up investigation and identified one of the two suspects involved,” police said.
On Monday, detectives conducted a surveillance operation in a Los Angeles neighborhood near the crime scene “and observed the identified juvenile suspect driving the victim’s stolen vehicle,” police said. “The juvenile suspect was ultimately taken into custody and transported to Juvenile Hall. The investigation is still ongoing.”
The suspect’s name was not released. Anyone with information on the case was urged to call Detective Ivan Hernandez at 310-253-6306 or the watch commander at 310-253-6202.
