A kidnapping and robbery suspect from Cathedral City who allegedly skipped a court date and fled to Mexico has been arrested at a border crossing, authorities announced Saturday.
Eduardo Luis Espinoza failed to appear in court Tuesday in connection with a robbery and kidnapping from June 2021, according to authorities. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
At about 9 a.m. Friday, the Cathedral City Police Department received a tip from someone who was able to provide Espinoza’s location, and police began an investigation, eventually confirming his location as being in Mexico.
Detectives began to work with local authorities in Mexico to locate and arrest the 33-year-old Cathedral City resident. He was taken into custody for his felony warrant at the border crossing in Calexico, California at around 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Espinoza was taken to the Riverside County jail in Indio for booking and holding on the kidnapping case as well as an additional felony warrant for weapons charges out of Palm Springs in 2018, authorities said.
