California Highway Patrol officers shot a suspect near the Rosecrans Avenue on-ramp of the San Diego (405) Freeway in Hawthorne Thursday evening, triggering a four-hour-plus shutdown of the freeway’s northbound lanes.
CHP officers responded to an area near the Rosecrans Avenue on-ramp just after 7 p.m. regarding a fire on the side of the freeway when the suspect confronted them, causing one or more officers to open fire on the suspect, according to KABC 7.
The suspect was taken to a hospital in an unknown condition.
The CHP issued a SigAlert for the closure of the northbound freeway in the vicinity of the shooting and traffic was diverted to Inglewood Avenue while it conducted an investigation.
