The Riverside County Fire Department was battling a small brush fire in Mecca Sunday.
The fire was reported at 12:30 p.m. in the 65800 block of Grapefruit Boulevard.
Firefighters were on the scene of the fire, which was burning in heavy fuels with a moderate rate of speed. The fire department said the blaze had burned a quarter-acre, but had the potential to grow to 15 acres.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
